Getting Started
What is Deja2 Camera?
Deja2 Camera shows a live camera picture and a delayed replay of what the camera just saw. You choose how far back the replay looks, then record a clip of that moment — including something that already happened.
How do I get started?
Allow Camera, Microphone, and Photos when prompted. The first launch walks you through Quick Start. You can open Quick Start again anytime from Settings → Help.
On iPhone, hold the phone vertically or horizontally. The controls follow how you hold it. On iPad, the camera screen stays landscape.
Watch the How To Use The Deja2™ Camera.
What’s the difference between Live and Delay (Replay)?
Live is what’s happening right now.
Delay / Replay is the same camera, shifted back by the delay you choose.
By default, Record captures the replay. A screen layout can be set to record Live instead. Use the Live / Delay control to choose which picture is full screen. Use Cycle and Settings → Screen Layouts to change the arrangement.
Recording & Delay
How do I record a clip?
Normal.
- Set the delay. The default is 6 seconds. For other delay ideas, see Power User Tips.
- Aim. Point the camera at the action.
- Press Record. When you see the moment you want, press the green Record button. The replay jumps back by the delay you set and recording starts. You watch that moment play again.
- Press Stop. When the action is finished, press the green Stop button. The clip saves to Photos.
Live Mark (Mark In). When you see something you might want, tap Live Mark, keep filming, then tap Record. Deja2 jumps back to that mark, with a few seconds before it. Stop when the replay of that moment finishes.
Watch How to Record a Moment After it Happens and How to Record a Moment After It Happens Using Live Mark.
For more ways to use Live Mark, see Power User Tips.
How do I change the delay?
Use Decrease Delay and Increase Delay on the main screen. Open the delay slider when you want a finer step.
Set your usual delay in Settings so the next session starts there.
Does recording stop by itself?
Yes. A recording stops and saves on its own at 5 minutes.
The on-screen timer warns you as you get close. It turns orange with 30 seconds left, then red and counts down for the last 10 seconds.
Why can’t I record yet?
Record turns on after 4 seconds. That is the shortest replay the app needs. You do not have to wait for the delay you set, such as 6 or 8 seconds, to finish counting up. You can press Record while it is still climbing. The clip jumps back by the delay that is active at that moment.
If the button stays gray after those 4 seconds, confirm Camera, Microphone, and Photos are allowed in iPhone Settings → Deja2 Camera.
Where do my clips go?
Saved recordings appear in the iOS Photos app. The last-clip thumbnail on the main screen opens the latest save when one is available.
Layouts, Zoom & Controls
Can I show Live and Replay at the same time?
Yes. Layouts include full-screen Live, full-screen Delay, picture-in-picture, and side-by-side. Use Cycle on the main screen and Settings → Screen Layouts to choose one. Tap a window to resize or move it when the adjust handles are available.
Watch How to Select Screen Layout and How To Adjust Live and Delay Screens.
How does zoom work?
Use the zoom presets on the main screen (for example 1×, 2×, 4×, 8×). Ultra-wide 0.5× appears when your device has that lens. Long-press a zoom control when you want a more exact zoom.
Watch How To Zoom.
What does the ? help button do?
Tap ? to show short labels for the main controls. Open Settings → Help for the full topic list, Quick Start, and a link to this page.

Premium
What is included in Premium?
Deja2™ Premium is a yearly subscription. It includes:
- No watermark on new saves
- Live Mark — mark a moment, then jump back to it
- Replay Screen Photo — save a still of the replay screen. How to Take a Photo from Replay Screen.
- Video Stabilization
Subscribe and restore from Settings → Premium, using the same Apple ID you used to buy. Subscribing does not remove the watermark from clips already in Photos.
Why is there a watermark on my clips?
Saves without an active Premium subscription include a Deja2 watermark. That includes the free Premium tries below. Premium turns the watermark off for new saves after you subscribe.
Can I try Premium before I subscribe?
Yes. You get 20 free Premium saves. These count:
- Replay Screen Photos
- Recordings that started with a Live Mark
A normal Record does not count. The watermark stays on during these free saves. When the 20 are used, subscribe to keep Live Mark, Replay Screen Photo, Video Stabilization, and watermark-free saves.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open Settings → Premium and tap Restore. Use the same Apple ID you used to buy. If restore fails, confirm that Apple ID in the App Store, try again, or email help@Deja2Video.com with the date on your Apple receipt.
Permissions, Devices & Troubleshooting
Which permissions does Deja2 need?
- Camera — live picture and recording
- Microphone — audio with your clips
- Photos — save clips and replay photos
Saving location with a clip is off until you turn it on in Settings. You can change Camera, Microphone, and Photos later in iOS Settings → Deja2 Camera.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. Deja2 Camera supports iPhone and iPad. The iPad camera screen stays landscape, and the default layout can differ from iPhone. Use Settings → Screen Layouts if a window looks off after Split View or Slide Over.
Preview stopped / black screen / “Retry”
This can happen if the app lost focus, a phone call took the microphone, or another app took audio (for example CarPlay with Podcasts or Music). Try:
- Tap Retry if it is shown
- End the call, or pause the other audio, then return to Deja2
- Force-quit and reopen the app if the picture stays frozen
If it keeps happening, use Settings → Feedback / Report Problems and describe what you were doing (a call, Bluetooth, CarPlay, or other apps).
The phone gets warm during long sessions
A continuous camera plus replay is demanding, the same way other camera apps are. Shorter sessions, lower zoom, and shade help. If the device gets too hot, iOS may slow it down. Let it cool, then try again.
Apple Watch?
Apple Watch will be supported in a later release. The iPhone and iPad app is the product to use today.
Feedback & Testimonials
How do I report a bug?
In the app: Settings → Feedback / Report Problems. Choose a type — Bug, Issue, Question, Feedback, or Idea — describe what happened, and send the email. The report can include your settings and a system log. It does not include your video or GPS coordinates.
You can also email help@Deja2Video.com.
How do I recommend a feature?
In the app, open Settings → Feedback / Report Problems and choose Idea. Describe the feature and send it.
You can also email help@Deja2Video.com with the subject “Feature idea.”
Can I send a testimonial?
Yes. In the app open Settings → Send a Testimonial. You’ll be asked to agree that Deja2 Camera may use your comments, and an optional name or handle, on the website, social pages, the App Store listing, and other promotional materials. A testimonial is optional and separate from bug reports.
Share Your Moments
How do I get featured on the Deja2 Camera Instagram page?
Post a photo or clip and tag #Deja2Camera and @Deja2Camera. If we approve it, we may add it to the Deja2 Camera feed.
Power User Tips
Can I use it like a dashcam?
Yes, for the moment that just happened. The recent video is already in the replay, so you can record it after you see it.
Keep the app open on the screen. A single recording stops and saves at 5 minutes, so this is for catching a clip, not leaving the phone running for a whole drive.
How long should I set the delay?
About 6 seconds for something fast, like a dolphin jump.
About 8 seconds when you’re less sure of the timing, like a basketball shot.
If you’re not sure, use Live Mark instead of guessing a delay.
Why use Live Mark?
Live Mark is for “that might be cool.” You don’t have to pick the delay before anything happens.
On the live picture, tap Live Mark when the moment starts. Keep filming. When you’re ready, tap Record. Deja2 jumps to that mark and includes the lead-in before it — 4 seconds unless you changed Seconds before Live Mark in Settings. Watch the delay picture and tap Stop when the moment has finished.
Tap Live Mark again while it is still active to watch that moment again. Hold it to clear the mark.
With that lead-in, you usually don’t need to hunt for the exact start.
Watch How to Record a Moment After It Happens Using Live Mark.
How do I pick the exact end of a long take?
Long-press Decrease Delay to jump toward now. Tap Increase Delay to step back to the frame where you want the clip to end, then tap Stop. You can’t move back past the start of that recording.
The Live / Delay control only changes which picture is large. It does not move the start or end of the clip.
Privacy
What does Deja2 do with my video?
Camera and microphone stay on your device for the live picture and the recording. Clips you save go to your Photos library. Feedback email you choose to send can include the diagnostic text in that report.
Read the Privacy Policy for the full details.
